Bohemians v Shamrock Rovers Match Preview – 2026 League of Ireland Premier Division

This Friday sees the final Friday night meeting at Dalymount Park between arch rivals Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers before Bohs’ historic home is redeveloped after this season.

Bohemians are still unbeaten and still yet to concede a goal this season after 3 games. A bore draw at the Aviva on the opening weekend against Pats was followed up by two impressive away wins at The Showgrounds and The Brandywell. There is a positive feeling around Bohs heading into the Derby but Alan Reynolds will be well aware of how quickly things can change in this league.

Shamrock Rovers finally got their campaign underway on Friday night with a convincing 2-0 victory against St. Pats at Tallaght Stadium. However, that positive feeling was diminished slightly after newly promoted Dundalk punished a slack Rovers side by equalising at the death to secure a well earned point.

Team News

Alan Reynolds seems to have found the winning formula with his Bohs’ side. The opening game against Pats saw the Bohs boss opt for a more controlled and tactical approach by using Conor Parsons as a false 9. The following week at the Showgrounds however, Reynolds went for a much more front footed, aggressive fluidity about his team with Dayle Rooney coming into the team and impressing. Sadou Diallo is yet to break into the team since his arrival from Derry City, mostly due to Jordan Flores impressive start to the season.

Given the extremely strong nature of Stephen Bradley’s Shamrock Rovers squad, the heavy rotation between Friday and Monday games shouldn’t come as a big surprise. Bradley has a plethora of options to choose from all over the pitch but one would think many of the players who started in the win over Pats would return to the team for this particular Dublin Derby.

Rory Gaffney and Max Kovaleskis both remain out while new signing Malaece Asamoah begins a 3 match suspension carrying over from his time at Wigan Athletic in League One

Key Statistics

Shamrock Rovers only came out on top once in their 4 meetings against the Gypsies last term. Bohemians haven’t lost against The Hoops at Dalymount since April 2023.

Key Players

Colm Whelan has had some false starts in his career to date that have been hampered by injuries but this impressive start he’s had to this season has only made fans more and more eager to see him reach his full potential. He’s given Bohs a focal point up top that has freed up players like Tierney, Rooney, Devoy and Vaughan behind him.

Adam Brennan is the latest example of players making the switch across Dublin from UCD to Shamrock Rovers. He’s got big shoes to fill with Josh Honohan leaving the club in the offseason but early indications are very positive. The 18 year old starred against Pats on Friday night. His pace, power, athleticism and fantastic work rate from wingback should prove to be a big asset for Stephen Bradley’s team.
