Cork City Confirm Seán Maguire Contract Extension

Cork City have announced a one year extension for striker Seán Maguire.

After recent speculation linking him with moves to Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians, Seán Maguire has committed his future to Cork City, signing a 1 year contract extension at Munster FA Turners Cross Stadium.

Maguire previously enjoyed significant success during his first spell with Cork City, winning two FAI Cups and a League of Ireland title. After spells in the UK with Preston North End, where he also earned 11 senior caps for the Republic of Ireland, he returned to Cork City for the club’s last two seasons and has now committed his future further with the Rebel Army.

During the 2025 League of Ireland Premier Division season, Maguire scored six goals for Cork City. He will now look to play a key role in the club’s push for promotion from the 2026 First Division, as Cork City look to return to and sustainably re-establish themselves in the top tier of Irish football.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Maguire highlighted the influence of manager Barry Robson on his decision. Speaking to club media following the announcement Maguire said:

“Since the manager has come in, he has played a big part in outlining how he wants to do things and where he wants this club to get to. He wants us to get back to where this club needs to be.

Our target for the coming season is to win the First Division and get back into the Premier Division at the first time of asking. We have a lot of experienced lads in the squad, as well as some really exciting young players. I am very excited for what is to come and am delighted to have signed an extension to my contract.

We have just under two weeks to go until the first game of the season, and I can’t wait to be playing at The Cross again in front of the City fans.”

Cork City manager Barry Robson also spoke to club media following the announcement saying:

“There has obviously been speculation about Seani’s future, so we are really thrilled to get this done. We were clear all along that we did not want him to go anywhere, because we know how good a player and how good a person he is.”

Cork City begin their 2026 First Division campaign on February 13th, when they face Treaty United in their opening fixture at Munster FA Turners Cross Stadium.
