Cork City Confirm Unexpected Departure of Ger Nash

Cork City have announced that Ger Nash has stepped down from his role as first-team manager for personal reasons.

Nash took the helm at Cork City in May following the sacking of Tim Clancy. His arrival saw a slight upturn in form, along with a surprising run to the FAI Cup Final, but he was ultimately unable to keep the Rebel Army in the Premier Division.

The former Ipswich Town defender oversaw 25 City matches, winning six, drawing six, and losing thirteen.

In the post-match press conference at the Aviva Stadium following Cork City’s defeat to Shamrock Rovers, a dejected Nash made his intentions of getting back to the Premier Division at the first attempt clear.

Yet, just a month and a half later, the club announced his decision to step down from his position, with pre-season preparations likely already underway.

In the club’s official announcement, it was revealed that Nash had indicated his decision was made due to personal reasons.

The search for a new first-team manager is now underway.
