Cork City V Derry City – GW 36 League Of Ireland Premier Division Preview

Cork City welcome Derry City to Turners Cross for the final game in the League Of Ireland Premier Division for 2025.

Tiernan Lynch brings his high flying Derry side to Turners Cross for one last hurrah this season. Derry beat Shamrock Rovers in the Brandywell last time out. Shamrock Rovers got a red card and Diallo and Fleming scored for the Northern outfit. While Derry delayed Shamrock Rovers title celebrations, Rovers won the league edging a win over Galway United. While Derry have secured European football for next season, a win should secure the runners up spot for the side with Shelbourne being two points below them.

Cork City will want to get a final home result under Ger Nash in their last outing in front of the famed “Shed End” for 2025. This fixture will be the finale of what has been a poor season for the relegated Rebel Army. However City can revive their poor season when they meet the official league Champions of 2025,Shamrock Rovers in what could be nothing short of a thrilling encounter in the FAI Cup Final in the Aviva Stadium on the 9th of November.

City boss Ger Nash can keep players fit by giving them game time during the League of Ireland’s “Super Saturday” fixtures which all kick off at 4:30. In other news for City fans, Ruairi Keating played 45 minutes of an u21 game last weekend as Nash has confirmed the loved striker is coming back to shape in time for a potential appearance in the Cup final. Cork City drew 1-1 away with Sligo Rovers last time out.

Prediction and Key Players:

Prediction: Cork City 1-1 Derry City

Cork City will be warming up for a cup final and they could possibly share the points with Derry, who are making the long trip south. The clash of the two great cities could end a respectable draw.

Cork City: Greg Bolger brings his experience of the league to the depth of City’s midfield and is playing well at a consistent rate of present. Bolger is still proving his quality in his late 30s.

Derry City: Michael Duffy is still in the running for the golden boot but regardless, Duffy is one of the league’s top scorers this season and was included in this years “PFA Team of the Season”. Tiernan Lynch has called on several occasions on Duffy’s potential to line up for the Republic of Ireland and follow in Shamrock Rovers Left-back Josh Honohan’s footsteps .
