The game started and remained to be end to end. with Galway winning a corner early on, but Frantz Perriot’s headed effort ended up just wide of the Bohs’ net. Bohs soon responed in the next play, as Harry Vaughan bypassed the Galway defence and squared the ball to Ross Tierney, but he couldn’t find the back of the net. Galway had a defensive mishap after 6 minutes of the game, which almost led to a Killian Brouder own goal, after he headed a cross into space despite ‘keeper Evan Watts calling for it. Luckily, Watts was able to parry the ball away and the danger was soon cleared. Bohs immediately then had a mishap of their own at the back, after a misplaced pass was recovered by Stephen Walsh, but his attempt on goal failed to hit the target.

Bohs continued their rampant attacks, as Bohs skipper Devoy played a great ball into Tierney, but the danger was dealt with by Galway’s Wasiri Williams. Bohs shortly after broke the deadlock on 24 minutes, as Dawson Devoy pulled a beautiful strike off the bar from outside the box out of the hat and gave his side the lead. Devoy created the second Bohs goal 5 minutes later, after he tip-toed through the Galway defense and slipped Douglas James-Taylor in, eho made no mistake of applying the finish into the bottom right corner, giving Bohs a 2-0 lead just shy of half an hour.

Stepehn Walsh soon found himself in hot water, as he was booked for hurling ex Galway player Cian Byrne to the ground. Bohs began to dictate the game, keeping possesion and doing the simple things well in order to win the game. Galway had some half chances on goal, including a Perriot header, and a Jimmy Keohane breakaway, which was saved brilliantly by Bohs’ number 1 Kacper Chorazka. Ultimately, the sides entered the tunnel at half time, with Bohs being the beneficiaries, leading 2 goals to nil.

Half time saw John Caulfield make 3 changes, as Matty Wolfe, Kris Twardek and Lee Devitt replaced Conor Barratt, Perriot and Conor McCormack. Twardek’s impact was instant for Galway, as he darted past 2 Bohs players and won a foul. He almost opened Galway’s account within 2 minutes of being on, after Brouder cushioned a ball for him in the box, but Twardek chose power over placement and blazed his shot over. Galway then had a perfect oppurtunity to grab a goal back, as a ball bounced favourably in the box, but Walsh and Devitt could not get the ball out from their feet and convert the chance. He soon did make his presence felt, after he whipped a cross into Ed McCarthy at the back post, and he headed home to breathe life into the game on 6o minutes.

Walsh nearly drew Galway level in the 64th minute, but his glancing header was off target. Twardek soon had a chance to equalise but his deflected shot was snuffed out by Chorazka in goals. The game soon turned sour for Galway, as substitute Conor Parsons ran down the left hand side and cut the ball back to Tierney, who bagged Bohs’ third goal of the evening after 75 minutes, leaving Galway in despair. Despair did not last long however for Galway, as McCarthy picked up a ball 30 yards from goal, spun past 1 defender and released a rocket into the top left hand corner bringing the game back to a one goal contest,a minute after conceeding.

Despair soon returned for Galway, as seconds later a ball delivered froma free kick came into the box, and who else but Patrick Hickey to head home for Bohs, sealing them the win.
