Galway United Host Athlone Town in Action Packed Weekend of Women’s Premier Division Football

Two unbeaten sides face off at Eamon Deacy Park, as Galway United host Athlone Town in a 1st v 2nd affair in the Premier Division.

Athlone Town went top of the table for the first time this season last weekend, as Galway United lost their 100%-win record in 2026 as they were held to a goalless draw against Shelbourne.

The League’s top goalscorer, Dana Scheriff was the difference maker for Athlone Town last weekend, with her goal giving the Town a 1-0 win over Treaty United. The American has 10 goals to her name, as Athlone are looking to win their third League title in a row.

While for Galway, April’s Player of the Month Aoibheann Costello has been pivotal to the success that Galway has earned in 2026 so far. Her leadership alongside the goals from both Emma Doherty (6) and Ceola Bergin (4) have thrown Galway into a title fight.

The game will be live on TG4, with kick-off at 7:45.

Third in the League Shelbourne face Peamount United in one of two Dublin derbies this weekend.

Peamount will be looking for revenge after a humiliating 5-2 loss against Wexford at Ferrycarrig Park, while Shels will look to keep the pressure on Athlone and Galway as they look to win their fifth game of the League season.

The other Dublin derby that takes place this Saturday is Shamrock Rovers v DLR Waves. DLR Waves won the last game between the two sides 1-0, with Michelle Doonan scoring the winner on that occasion.

Despite that, Rovers have won 6 of the last 7 games against the Waves. Also, Rovers have only lost one game this season in all competitions, being a 2-0 home loss against Peamount.

Treaty United will host Wexford at Markets Field. Interestingly, Treaty have been unbeaten in 8 of the last 9 games against Wexford, winning 7 and drawing 1. However, Treaty have failed to win any of their last 3 games, including a draw against Cork and a narrow lose against league leaders Athlone.

While Wexford will be high on confidence after an impressive 5-2 victory over Peamount. Most impressive was Courtney Chochol, with the Canadian grabbing a hat-trick in Wexford’s second win in all competitions in 2026.

Bohemians will aim for their second win of 2026, as they play host to Waterford. The Blues have been in good form recently, winning 2 of their last 4 games and going 2-0 up early on against Athlone. Bohs finally ended their 6-game losing streak with a draw against Rovers and will look to add to their 3-0 win over Cork earlier in the season.

Sligo Rovers host Cork City, as Cork have found a new lease of life under new manager Derek Coughlan. The Leesiders have drawn the last 2 games, as they look to put an end to a 29-game winless run in all competitions.

For Sligo, Sydney Stephens and Cara Jordan have been amazing singings from the collegiate system from America, with Stephens scoring 6 goals in the League this season.

All games will be played on Saturday, May 23rd.
