Republic of Ireland gears up for crucial World Cup Qualifier against Poland

Team News

Ireland have nearly a fully fit squad going into the game on Tuesday. They will be without veteran Ruesha Littlejohn due to a flair up of an Achilles issue. Everyone else is fully fit, including the return of 129 cap star Denise O’Sullivan, who returns from a knee injury.

Poland will be without suspended Nadia Krezyman, who was sent off in their 4-1 lose to France. However, there is no injury news for Nina Patalon’s side as they have a fully fit squad to select from for Tuesday.

Key Statistics

This will be the fifth time that Ireland and Poland have played against each other, with their previous encounter being an Irish victory in a friendly in Malaga in 2022.

Ireland’s last win was in a friendly against Hungary in November of last year. Likewise, Poland’s last victory was against Lativa in a friendly in Gdansk towards the end of 2025.

There will be no shortage of goals, with both teams scoring in each of their last five games, with Ireland scoring 10 goals and Poland scoring 12.

Key Players

Ireland’s captain fantastic Katie McCabe has been nothing short of world class for Ireland this campaign, registering two goals in two games for the girls in green. Alongside her amazing form, Emily Murphy has taken a huge step up for Ireland this campaign, with the Newcastle forward grabbing an assist against France in Tallaght.

However, Poland will have star player Ewa Pajor in their ranks for the game in Gdansk, with the Barca striker scoring in both games so far this campaign. Arguably one of the best strikers in the world, even Ireland gaffer Carla Ward admitted in an interview with the RTÉ that she is “world-class”.
