LOI First Division Gameweek 15: Everything You Need To Know

Gameweek 15 of the League of Ireland First Division is headlined by a huge clash at Turners Cross as Cork City welcome league leaders UCD on Friday night.

After a dramatic bank holiday weekend which saw Kerry FC shock Cork City, UCD move to the top of the table and Treaty United pick up just their second win of the season, another huge round of fixtures awaits in Gameweek 15 with massive games at both the top and bottom of the First Division table.

Athlone Town V Treaty United

Treaty United picked up their 2nd win of the season on Monday evening at the Markets Field thanks to a late Brian Cunningham strike to pick up all 3 points against Wexford. The Limerick side’s last win came back in March against Friday night’s opposition when Treaty came away 2-0 winners at the Garryowen Venue. It has been a disappointing start for to the season for Tommy Barrett’s side sitting bottom of the table after 13 games played but the bank holiday weekend have showed glimpses of hope as the Limerick side picked up 4 points from a possible 6.

Athlone Town come into Friday night’s game having picked up 2 draws across the weekend the most recent one being a 1-1 draw away to Longford Town at Bishopsgate. Athlone currently sit in 4th place going into Friday night’s game 6 points off league leaders UCD.

Bray Wanderers V Cobh Ramblers

Bray Wanderers come into Friday night’s clash off the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat away to Finn Harps on Monday evening. The Seagulls had gone into the game looking to get back to winning ways after their draw against Treaty United on Friday night but were unable to come away from Ballybofey with any points.

Cobh Ramblers suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat away to league leaders UCD at St Colman’s Park on Monday evening. Fran Rockett’s side had taken the lead through Rhys Brennan before the Students turned the game around in the second half to continue their excellent run of form. Despite the loss Ramblers have shown strong form in recent weeks including an impressive away win over Cork City at Munster FA Turners Cross stadium on Friday evening and currently sit 5th in the table, one point ahead of Bray going into Friday night’s meeting.

Cork City V UCD

Cork City come into Friday night’s top of the table clash looking to bounce back from a disappointing bank holiday weekend.. The Rebel Army had suffered their first defeat of the season after a 1-0 loss to Cobh Ramblers at home and failed to bounce back at Mounthawk Park after Niall Brookwell’s first half strike proved enough for the hosts to take all three points.

UCD moved to the top of the First Division table on Monday evening thanks to an impressive 2-1 win away to Cobh Ramblers. The Students came from behind at St Colman’s Park with second half goals securing all three points and continuing their excellent recent form. William O’Connor’s side have been one of the standout teams in the division so far this season and will look to remain top of the pile come 9:30 PM on Friday evening.

Finn Harps V Kerry FC

Finn Harps come into Friday night’s game after picking up an impressive 2-1 win over Bray Wanderers at Finn Park on Monday evening. The Ballybofey side had been struggling for form in recent weeks but bounced back in style with a much needed three points against the Seagulls.

Kerry FC pulled off one of the shocks of the season on Monday evening as they defeated Cork City for their very first time in a competitive fixture at Mounthawk Park. Niall Brookwell’s first half strike proved enough to separate the sides as Colin Healy’s side picked up a massive three points against one of the promotion favourites.

Wexford V Longford Town

Wexford come into Friday night’s tie looking to bounce back from a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Treaty United on Monday evening. Prior to that defeat the southeast side had been in impressive form with back to back victories against Finn Harps and Cobh Ramblers. Wexford currently sit 3rd in the First Division table and will see Friday night’s game at Ferrycarrig Park as a huge opportunity to strengthen their playoff position early into the campaign.

Longford Town meanwhile picked up a 1-1 draw against Athlone Town at Bishopsgate on Monday evening. Longford Town have proven difficult to beat in recent weeks with victories over Kerry FC and Bray Wanderers alongside a draw away to Cobh Ramblers. Longford currently sit 7th in the table and will take confidence from their 2-0 victory over Wexford when the sides met earlier in the season at Bishopsgate.
