St. Patricks’ Athletic V Galway United Match Preview – 2026 League Of Ireland Premier Division

St. Patricks’ Athletic will host Galway United at Richmond Park this Monday after the fixture was postponed earlier in the season because of a waterlogged pitch.

This game will be the fourth match of the season for both sides and will be a quick turnaround after both sides picked up their first wins of the campaign on Friday.

St. Pats thumped newly promoted Dundalk 4-0, while Galway beat Sligo Rovers 1-0 in the Connaught Derby. Both sides played as well as they have done so far this season, which sets up an intriguing fixture in Inchicore.

With such a short turn around there may well be some rotation needed from both managers, who will want to avoid burning their players out so early in the season. Friday saw Galway play a back four for the first time this season although they may switch back to a five for an away trip to the capital, while Stephen Kenny’s side do have the luxury of a deeper squad to pick from.

Team News

For Galway United, new singing Frantz Pierrot was not included in the squad that faced Sligo and may not be fit for this one either. Al Amin Kazzeem has also not been seen so far this season, and it is unclear if he will be back from injury to face his old club.

Simon Power is out for St. Pats with a knee injury, while Anto Breslin is also a doubt having missed the Dundalk game with a knock.

Key Statistics

Galway’s last win in this fixture came back in June of last season, where a Moses Dyer inspired performance led them to a 3-1 win. That was as good as it got for Galway last year and their form dipped sharply following what proved to be Dyer’s last home appearance.

The sides drew the subsequent league game later on in the season after St. Pats had beaten Galway in the FAI cup quarter final a week previous.

Key Players

Gianfranco Facchineri was excellent for the Tribesmen against Sligo and dominated his aerial battles. Galway will need a similar performance from him here if they are going to get a result.

For the Saints, Aiden Keena opened his account for the season against Dundalk, and he will be crucial if they are going to break down this Galway defence. With Max Mata also returning from injury and Romal Palmer also scoring against Dundalk, Keena will want to make sure he is first choice striker for Stephen Kenny, and a big performance here will surely help.
