Speaking after St Patrick’s Athletics’ 1-0 loss away to Shamrock Rovers, Stephen Kenny hinted at potential Ireland call-ups for some of his St Pats players.
“There has been talk about it, but we’ll have to wait until the morning,” said Kenny to the media.
“I’ve not had contact with anyone, but there has been speculation about it.”
LOI Talk understands that Kian Leavy will receive his first call up for the friendly in Montreal.
The former Ireland manager was also asked about how he felt about Ireland’s UEFA Nations League fixtures in September and October.
“I thought that FIFA and UEFA could have got involved a lot earlier, and countries could have collaborated (in a boycott)”, he answered.
The St Pats manager said that he was “disappointed” by the defeat, as the Saints now sit 8 points behind their opponents in the league table.
“I wasn’t happy with our attacking play” as Kenny remarked on what could have been for his side.
He also added how his side have “no excuses” to lose to Rovers for the third time this season, as the gap widens at the top of the table.
However, Kenny stated that he thought Sean Hoare’s disallowed goal was “legitimate”.
“From the tactical angle we have he looks onside. If we score that people probably think that’s a fair result.”
The St Pats manager praised the “very professional” and “selfless” Joeseph Anang, as the goalie left Ghanian camp to play for the pride of Inchicore.
“He flew in from Cardiff late last night, and he’ll fly back to Ghana camp tomorrow.”
Kenny reminded the media that “there is a lot of football to be played” and stated that Pats must “hit the ground running” after the summer break as the Saints look to return to the summit of Irish football for the first time since 2013.
