Today the Premier division clash between Cork city and shamrock rovers which was to be played in Tallaght Stadium was postponed due to a ‘waterlogged pitch’
This has caused outrage to both sides of fans especially cork city as the league only announced the game would not be played 37 minutes before kick off.
As you can imagine this did not sit well with the cork city fans as hundreds made a 6 hour round trip journey up to Dublin from Cork.
There was 3 Pitch inspections that took place with the first one taking place at 11:15 which passed but with more rain forecasted during the day it was decided by officials and both clubs that a second inspection would take place at 16:00. That second inspection passed with the league confirming the game was on and would start at the normal kickoff time which was 18:00 but after ‘Torenttial downpour’ after the second inspection that made the pitch unplayable the game was announced called off at 5:23.
A call really should’ve been made by 14:00 as by the time it was announced the majority of Cork city fans were in the stadium already. Both fans and clubs are asking the Fai and League of Ireland to review its processes for accessing pitch conditions.
It has also been confirmed that Cork city requested a delayed kick off to facilitate the game going ahead which was apparently Ignored.
The leagues handling of this fixture has seen hundreds of travelling supporters left out of pocket, and having wasted a day going to Dublin. The league should review the decisions made to avoid of a similar situation.

This may be no bad for the hoops to have an unexpected day off, given they had been through a battle into extra time in a European tie on Thursday night and the postponement gives the club medical staff a chance to work through their lengthy injury list of tests against shelbourne (Friday) and Sligo rovers (next Monday).
The game will be played on a further date which is due to be announced.
