Cobh Ramblers Appoint Fran Rockett as new Head Coach For 2026 Season

Cobh Ramblers have announced the appointment of Fran Rockett as head coach for their 2026 First Division campaign.

Rockkett comes into the role following the departure of Mick McDermott before the playoffs in the 2025 season where Cobh Ramblers were defeated 2-1 on aggregate by Treaty United.

In a club statement released on X (formerly Twitter) Cobh Ramblers ” are delighted to announce the appointment of Fran Rockett as Men’s Senior Team Head Coach”.

Ilya Movshovich from the Digital Athlete Ventures that own a 90% stake in the Ramblers spoke to club media saying:

We are thrilled to welcome Fran back to Cobh Ramblers. His knowledge, experience, and passion for the club make him the right person to lead our senior team forward. We believe Fran is an excellent fit for where we are headed as a club — focused on building strong foundations, developing players, and achieving long-term success.

Recently appointed director of football for Cobh Ramblers, Conor Meade also spoke to club media saying:

I’m delighted to announce Fran as Head Coach. He eats, sleeps, and breathes football and will represent the club with energy and honesty. It’s an exciting appointment, and we as a club will do all we can to help him.

Previous Experience

Rockett’s last role in the League Of Ireland was also at Cobh Ramblers where he was the assistant manager for Shane Keegan for the 2023 season and also the assistant manager for Darren Murphy in the 2022 season.

He has also had a spell at Waterford as assistant manager for John Sheridan for just 8 games before taking over as caretaker manager for the remainder of the 2020 season.

As a player, Rockett is no stranger to St.Colmans Park having joined Cobh Ramblers on loan from Waterford United in 2005 before making the deal a permanent one for the 2006 season.

Cobh Ramblers will be looking to put the disappointment of the way the 2025 season ended and recruit well while crucially hanging onto their key players from this season that guided them to the second place finish. Barry Coffey will be priority number 1 to hang onto for 2026 with rumours of other LOI clubs looking for his signature after an outstanding season in the First Division hitting 26 goals this season to win the First Division golden boot.
