Cobh Ramblers vs Wexford FC Preview – League of Ireland First Division 2026

League football returns to St Colemans Park as both Cobh Ramblers and Wexford hope to improve on 2025 campaign.

Ramblers had an impressive season last year, but it will mostly be looked back on with regret. After being the only side to push Dundalk throughout the 36 league games, failing to beat Treaty United in the playoff semi-finals would have been hugely disappointing for the south coast side.

Cobh have had a busy winter, hiring Fran Rockett as the new first-team manager, as well as making some impressive signings. Gary Buckley, Wilson Waweru, and Corey Chambers are among the new faces at the club.

Wexford would also have been disappointed with the results of last season, missing out on a playoff spot. Injuries massively hampered Stephen Elliott’s side.

Reinforcements have been made, with the standout name being Max Murphy. The highly talented full-back has switched Bray Wanderers green for Wexford purple.

Key Players

With the departure of both Cian Murphy and Barry Coffey, eyes will turn to Wilson Waweru to be the main attacking threat of the Ramblers frontline.

Max Murphy is the obvious candidate to put forward, his next clubs was heavily discussed after Bray’s promotion/relagation final loss to Waterford. Some thought the 24 year old would make the step up to the Premier Division, but his decision to move southwest shows how attractive of a project Wexford is.
