St. Patrick’s Athletic V Galway United Preview – 2026 League Of Ireland Premier Division

St. Patrick’s Athletic will host Galway United at Richmond Park in game week two of the League of Ireland Premier Division.

Both sides will be looking for their first wins of the new campaign, after St. Pats drew with Bohemians in the Aviva stadium, and Galway United fell to defeat at home against Drogheda United.

Galway will feel unlucky not to have picked up at least a point in their game after having the better of the chances and the usually ever reliable David Hurley missing a penalty, before the away side scored a late winner.

St. Pats on the other hand will have been the happier of the sides leaving the Aviva with a point. Joseph Anang was very impressive in goals and his four saves, including a one-on-one stop to deny Conor Parsons, were crucial to Pats picking up a point and keeping a clean sheet.

Team News

For Galway United, Darragh McGuiness and Cillian Tollet are both still out, while it is unclear if Al Amin Kazeem will be back fit for the trip to Richmond Park after missing the Drogheda game.

It will also be interesting to see if new signing Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau makes his debut, after the tribesmen’s struggles in front of goal on Friday.

Zack Elbouzedi was forced off for St. Pats in the first half against Bohemians and summer signing Max Mata is still an injury doubt after missing Sunday’s clash following an injury in preseason.

Key Statistics

Galway’s last win in this fixture came back in June of last season, where a Moses Dyer inspired performance led them to a 3-1 win. That was as good as it got for Galway last year and their form dipped sharply following what proved to be Dyer’s last home appearance.

The sides drew the subsequent league game later on in the season after St. Pats had beaten Galway in the FAI cup quarter final a week previous.

Key Players

For Galway United, they will hope for another impressive performance from new signing Wasiri Williams, who was very solid on the right-hand side of the Galway back three last week. He also came close to scoring with a couple of headers and if United are to score, set pieces look the most likely source of goals.

For St. Pats, they will need more from their attacking players to break down a Galway defence that will most likely sit deep. Striker Aiden Keena will want to open his account for the season and after scoring a wonderful volley against Galway last year, he will hope to repeat the trick in Inchicore this time around.
