Its City vs City tonight in Turner’s Cross as Cork City take on Tiernan Lynch’s Derry City.
City go into the game after taking 1 point from the double header as they found an equaliser last Friday against Shamrock Rovers late on courtesy of Freddie Anderson.
These fortunes would not continue onto the bank holiday Monday in Sullivan & Lambe Park as they conceded a last minute penalty which Ryan Brennan calmly sent Tein Troost the wrong way to snatch all 3 points in the end with a 3-2 victory. Recent City addition Djenairo Daniels found himself on the scoresheet twice looking very sharp on the ball and very energetic in his pressing game. This takes him to 4 goal involvements in his last 3 games.
Derry City on the other hand are just coming off of a 1-0 win over Stephen Kenny’s St.Patrick’s Athletic at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium on Monday Night. Danny Mullen found himself as the only man on the scoresheet. This win took Derry into the European spots as they now sit 3rd in the table.
They also took down reigning Champions Shelbourne at the Brandywell with Liam Boyce and Michael Duffy the goal scorers in this game.
Cork City go into this game with 5 points in their last 15 while Derry have picked up 12 in their last 15 possible
Cork City prepare for this game with an extensive missing list with Benny Cuoto, Greg Bolger, Malik Dijksteel, Ruairí Keating, Josh Fitzpatrick(suspended) and Conor Drinan but they will be heaving boosted with the expected return of fan favourite Seani Maguire and Milan Mbeng is also expected to join him in his return as he was pictured in the club’s recent social media post in training.
It’s a much needed result for Cork City tonight but it wont come easy knowing the quality Derry City have and the great form they’ve had the last few weeks.
