It’s deadline day in the Netherlands and Eerste Divisie side Roda JC Kerkrade are looking at making a late swoop for Sligo Rovers Captain Will Fitzgerald
The 26 year old Limerick man has been a key part in Sligo Rovers revival in the second half of this season as Sligo Rovers look to escape the relegation playoff, making 31 appearances across all competitions this season and providing 10 assists.
The news was firstly revealed by John Fallon from the Irish Examiner earlier this morning and a offer from the Dutch side is expected before tonight’s 11PM deadline.
Fitzgerald started off his League Of Ireland career at his home club Limerick FC joining the academy in 2016. He made his League Of Ireland debut in 2017 going on to make 42 appearances in the Limerick FC colours before making a move to Munster rivals Waterford in 2019.
Fitzgerald made 21 appearances at Waterford across all competitions before making the move up north to Derry City making 33 appearances and then making the move to his current home Sligo Rovers where he has really exelled.
133 games played for Sligo Rovers, 6 goals and 28 assists for the club since his arrival in 2022.
Roda JC currently sit 7th in Eerste Divisie after 4 games.
It will be an interesting next couple of hours to see if Will Fitzgerald will be a Sligo Rovers player come the end of the night
