After being heavily linked with a move to Lazio, PSV and Chelsea last summer, 15 year old starlet Richie Ferizaj has seemingly made a shock move to Bray Wanderers!
Ahead of their preseason friendly against St. Patrick’s CYFC, some eagle eyed Bray supporters noticed Richies name amongst the substitutes, all but officially confirming the signing, it is unclear whether he has signed on loan or permanently.

The attacking midfielder has been labelled as one of the best young talents in the entire League of Ireland and is a huge coup for The Seagulls.
Let’s have a quick look at the Irishman’s ‘career’ so far.
Shamrock Rovers
Just like his brother Justin, Richie Ferizaj came through the Shamrock Rovers academy, where he made a strong impression. Before his move to Bray Wanderers, he was a key player for Shamrock Rovers’ U18 side, showcasing immense promise and attracting interest from top European clubs.

Lazio Trials
In the summer of 2024, Lazio asked The Hoops for permission to bring Richard to Rome for three days, to see how the midfielder fared. It’s unclear if Ferizaj impressed on trial with I Biancocelesti, it is also important to note that a move outside of Ireland cannot go through until he is 16, which he will turn next month. Along with Lazio, there was interest from PSV, who had scouts watching his performance at a number of Ireland U15 games. The fact that there was interest from European giants like these two, highlight the immense talent Richard possesses and the quality he could bring for Bray.
International Experience
Ferizaj has also made an impact on the international stage, representing Ireland at both the U15 and U16 levels. These experiences have helped him gain exposure beyond domestic youth competitions and have been pivotal in building his reputation, which caught the attention of scouts from prominent European clubs.

Making the leap to senior football at Bray?
It’s likely that Richard will make the step up to senior football at Bray considering the trust put into youth by Paul Heffernan along with the immense bags of talents possessed by Ferizaj. It had also been reported that Richie was keen to leave Tallaght this winter, as he was looking to fast track his route to senior football, regular first team appearances from 16 year old Billy O’Neill and 17 year old Alain Kizenga have proven this is very achievable at Bray.
While specific details on the 15 year olds specific abilities and attributes are very limited, his swift rise through Shamrock Rovers academy, Interest from Lazio, PSV and Chelsea and multiple international appearances suggests that he holds exceptional talent in many areas.
Considering he is an attacking midfielder, he likely excels in areas like creativity and technical skill, key traits for this position.
It’s very hard to know how he will fit in at Bray considering the very limited specifics on him but consider the 4-2-3-1 system Bray used throughout last season, he is likely to play in an advanced midfield/second striker role, similar to Shane Griffin and Ben Feeney from last season.
Hopefully Richard is given the chance to play regular senior football for the Green Army, and can have a breakout season in the 2025 campaign.
Conclusion
The signing of Richard Ferizaj is a very exciting one for Bray and shows real ambition for the upcoming season. If given the opportunity, I really think Richard will excel in green and white and it is a great opportunity for him to prove himself in the senior game.
I rate this signing: 9/10.
