George Nunn is Cóbh bound

Cóbh Ramblers have announced the signing of former Ireland and Chelsea underage Centre Forward George Nunn subject to International Clearance. Nunn joins on a free transfer after recently playing with HK Kópavogs in Iceland. Along with playing at Chelsea at underage level Nunn has also played with Derby County and Crewe Alexandra. Chelsea bought Nunn for €340,000 from Crewe.

Ramblers manager Mick McDermott said “He’s a centre-forward that can play in multiple positions across the front line. We’ve been looking for another forward to strengthen in terms of quality and numbers. I had the feeling that we were tight in terms of numbers up there so to get another quality forward in who can add to the depth as well as the strength of the squad.

Ramblers drew with UCD last Friday Night at the UCD Bowl after conceding an 89th minute equaliser courtesy of Éanna Clancy. Ramblers were frustrated to concede late on and this feeling was shared by McDermott.

“I thought in the first 45 minutes and probably up to minute 60, I thought we were comfortable I thought the first 45 minutes we were in control of the game in terms of not allowing them to play, in terms of territory of the pitch. They had 1 chance in the first 30 seconds which they probably should have scored from”.

“I thought the last 20 minute spell we were a little bit dis-organised. They’re a good team and they started to put on some pressure and to concede so late i thought it was poor from us regardless of personnel on the pitch or regardless of the opponent you don’t concede in minute 89. I mean the basics of football you go to get your blocks in, you got to throw your body on the line”.

“It felt like a loss to be honest. Coming out of there with a point which is not a bad result in the bigger scheme of things but because we had the one goal advantage for so long in the game it was really disappointing to concede so late in the game”.

Ramblers now turn their attention to Longford Town whom they will face at St.Colman’s Park on Friday Night. They will be seeking their first home win of the season against Wayne Groves’ side and they will hope to give the Cóbh faithful something to cheer about.
