During Colin Healy’s post match interview on Friday he was asked why Daniel Okwute (a regular starter for Kerry) was named in the squad but was later dropped…
Healy stated that Okwute was left out of the squad for being late. “We have rules here and discipline is very important. Daniel was late so Daniel wasn’t in the squad”, said the Kerry manager.
The expected time of arrival for a Kerry player is over 90 minutes minutes before kickoff and Daniel was listed in the team which goes out at 6:30 meaning Okwute was at least a half hour late for the game against Dundalk.
When I spoke to Colin about the impact of fatigue following a Monday night match he admitted that tiredness may have kicked in four days later in Wexford when the team failed to take a single point home, despite being up 3-1 at half time. However he added, “The players get plenty of recovery and they are well looked after so as I said I don’t want any excuses”.
