Leinster Senior League side Lucan United look set to join the FAI National League in 2026 as their application was accepted by the FAI for the new competition.
This comes as the FAI have been going around to clubs in the past 2 weeks letting them know if there applications have been deemed successful or not to be apart of this new league starting in the middle of 2026.
It was revealed last week by Trim Celtic and St Patricks CYFC that their applications were unsuccessful but were told they would be on the radar for “future expansions” with reports of a tier 4 being considered in the future.
LOI Talk revealed on November 12th that there would not be the 20 teams the FAI had hoped to have in the National League next season and were adopting a more quality over quantity approach due to a number of applicants pulling out during the process.
Dublin side Lucan United currently play in the Leinster Senior League Premier Division where they sit in second place after 10 games played 4 points behind Malahide United.
Lucan United was founded in 1969 that fields 37 teams across all age groups across the Leinster Senior League and the Amateur Football League (AFL)
It is also been rumoured that other Leinster Senior League sides Home Farm FC who submitted a joint application with DCU and St Francis FC have also seen their application accepted to the National League.
Confirmation of the participants for the FAI National League is expected from the FAI by the end of 2025 with the start of the inaugural shorter season of the league starting in 2026 with the aim for the 2027 season to be in align with the League Of Ireland calendar.
