Ian McMahon Set for Treaty United Managing Director Role

Ian McMahon looks set to join Treaty United as a managing director ahead of the 2026 League Of Ireland season,

This comes following the announcement yesterday from Treaty United that Ciara McCormack will be stepping down from the role after 2 years in charge at the Limerick side.

In the club statement released on the Treaty United website yesterday, It said will step down from her role “effective 30 November 2025” so could expect an announcement about McMahons appointment at the end of this week or start of this week. It is understood McMahon is inline for a CEO/General Manager type role at the club.

Who Is Ian McMahon

Born on November 7th 1964, Ian McMahon (64 years old) is a former English footballer whose playing career was cut short due to a serious knee injury that saw him move into the sports administration and executive roles.

McMahon started his player career at the Manchester City youth academy before moving to Oldham Athletic where he would make his first team debut. In 1983, McMahon would join Rochdale where he made 91 appearances scoring 8 goals before a serious knee injury forced him to retire.

Following his early retirement McMahon has held various different roles at administration level at football clubs such as Hull City and Doncaster Rovers. McMahon wrote a book about his time at Doncaster Rovers called The Only Way is Up.

Following his stint at Doncaster Rovers, McMahon made the move to the United States where he played a massive role in developing the Des Moines Menace youth academy, An American soccer team based in Iowa. McMahon held a similar role then at West Michigan Edge before being a founding member of the West Michigan Fire Juniors alongside MLS side Chicago Fire.

in 2011, McMahon became the commissioner of Women’s League Soccer (WLS) in America in a role he described as “to help teams grow on and off the field and help attract fans”.

1 of McMahons most recent roles came in 2022, when he was the CEO of the Professional Jockeys Association. He departed this role in June 2023 following unrest from jockeys.

As Treaty United look to build momentum ahead of the 2026 League Of Ireland Season, bringing an end to this uncertain period following McCormacks departure will be welcomed by Treaty United supporters. As they will be looking to improve on encouraging displays by both their men’s and women’s sides in 2025 with both teams recording record points totals.
