A Dylan McGlade hattrick placed more pressure on Tommy Barrett and Treaty United on an evening to forget at St.Colmans Park.

The fans of Cobh Ramblers and Treaty United have struck up a firm friendship over the last few season which even survived their playoff clash in 2025. Supporters often meet up before fixtures and Treaty fans have been known to stay late in the Ramblers clubhouse after games in St. Coleman’s Park. Monday evening was no different. This time the Treaty faithful travelled by train and a large contingent were in the bar at Ramblers two hours before kick off.
Ramblers, coming off the back of a good win away at Kerry FC, began with the same starting side with the exception of Rhy Brennan coming in for the Brian Linehan. Ramblers’ injury list was still extensive with Cian Coleman, Luka Le Bervet and both Shane Griffins all missing.
From the start Ramblers took control of the game with Mikey Carroll, Rhys Gourdie and Oran Crowe dominating midfield and releasing Ramblers’ attacking players to create chances. Dylan McGlade and Rhy Brennan, in particularly, were a constant danger to the Treaty defence and combined after 11 minutes when Brennan set up McGlade for the opening goal. Breaking through the centre the Bohemians loanee feed McGlade on the left side of the box who made no mistake from twelve yards out.
In the 19th minute the two Ramblers players were once again involved in Ramblers’ second goal. Gourdie and Brennan exchanged neat passes on the right before Gourdie feed the ball across the box where an unmarked McGlade finished into the top corner from ten yards out.
Brennan continued to torment the Treaty defence and for the second week in a row he earned his side a penalty. Just before the interval he stole the ball from Treaty defender Ben Lynch in the box. In desperation Lynch pulled him back and referee John Sconnie Walsh had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. McGlade stepped forward to confidently score his second penalty in two games, Ramblers third goal of the game and completing his hattrick.
A triple change by Treaty did little to stem the tide, with Lynch replaced by Ohin, Doherty replaced with Healy and Kozlowski replaced by Oyenuga. Ramblers started the second half confidently with Kia O’Neill replacing Rhy Kelly-Noonan, who was carrying a yellow card. It took little over 10 minutes for the 18 year old to make his mark, latching onto a Honohan throw in the 56th minute, breaking through the defence and beating Jack Brady with a good shot to effectively end the game as a contest and score his second goal of the campaign.
A string of substitution in the 65th took the heat out of the game with Carroll, Gourdie and McGlade being replaced with Osario, Abbott and Waweru. Six minutes later Adenope replaced Crowe. Treaty started to have a little more possession and pushed for a consolation but created little chances of note as the game ran out as a comprehensive victory for the Rams.
The result leaves Treaty United at the bottom of the First Division with 6 points and mounting questions for Tommy Barrett. Cobh Ramblers rise to 6th only a point outside the playoff places.

Interviews
Man of the Match Dylan McGalde was full of praise for his team at fulltime. ‘I think all the boys were absolutely excellent from start to finish. We were very disappointed after the UCD game and we knew this weekend was going to be a big one for us. Clean sheet as well I thought was massive. We were disappointed on Friday not to finish with a clean sheet but I mean other than that I don’t think you can fault any of the boys.’
Reflecting on his five goals in two games McGlade stated ‘I was very frustrated towards the start of the season, I didn’t get a pre-season at all, just little niggles and stuff. Great to get scoring again and you know it’s something that I’ve always kind of wanted to have in my game and be a threat in that sense and you know I think the combination play with Rhys Brennan and Rhys Gourdie is really starting to pay dividends and we’re really starting to build a good connection.’
McGlade also reflected on the mix of youth and experience that is building in the squad. ‘I think we have just missed that little bit of clinical finishing and maybe a bit of experience, there’s a few boys that are playing their first games in the league but I think myself and Gary Buckley coming back in and just having that little bit more experience in the side has really helped the younger boys. You see the likes of Lucas [Curtin] and Mikey [Carroll] and Oran [Crowe] flourishing now and Kai [O’Neill] coming on and scoring. You can see just that bit of experience has given the younger boys a little bit more confidence to go and play.’

Cobh Manager Fran Rockett was equally happy with the result. ‘It’s one of those performances we’ve been waiting for. I suppose with the quality we have in the dressing room we were due it. We owed the people in Cobh a performance. But the boys were fantastic. It’s not easy going back-to-back results and that was the intention at the start of this weekend. We get the six points or as close to them as possible and we did it, so I’m really, really happy.’
Commenting on the ongoing absentees Rockett again took positives. ‘Look, we’ve been hampered with injuries. But like we said to the lads, I think we’re in a scenario where we’ve probably learnt more about ourselves as a team than any other team in the league. We’re coming through. So hopefully now we’re after turning the corner. We’ll review the first quarter of games on Wednesday night and we’ll look to attack the next round of games with positivity.’
The Cobh manager was full of praise for hattrick hero McGlade ‘He’s been a revelation to us. Everyone sees Dylan McLean as silky and good on the eyes, but his attitude and the way he speaks, he’s the first in line when he comes out and trains. His application is top, top drawer. I think you could be looking at somebody on his way to having his own best individual season. I think there’s a lot more to McGlade and I think it’s going to be a great season for him’.
Rhys Brennan on loan from Bohemians also came in for praise. ‘Outstanding. You’re asking somebody who’s in a possession-dominant team up in Dublin to do a role in a team at the minute and still find their feet. You can see the players, the likes of Rhys and the others, when we’re in possession of the ball, they’re a constant threat on the shoulder of the opposition, but so happy for him. What a character, with a big future ahead for him.’
Brendeán Frahill at centre half drew mention. ‘I thought he was calmness personified, his distribution of the ball, his aerial ability. I think we all know Brendeán, what he gives, he’s Cobh through and through, a gentle giant, an ever-present, and somebody we all love. We know that through the tough times you know what you’re going to get from Brendeán.
Next up for Cobh Ramblers is the long trip away to Finn Harps. Treaty United face league leaders Cork City at home in the Markets Field. Both games will be played on Friday April 10th.
