Cork City 2-1 Waterford,An exciting Match in the cross
In what was a edge of your seat watch til the final whistle at the 96th minute, Cork City beat Waterford to book a place in the FAI Cup quarter finals. Both teams proved to be on the attack with Waterford being strong in the first half. Conor Brann made several notable saves for the leesiders in the latest episode of a Munster Derby. The sides will face again in the Leauge in the same venue in two weeks time.
Young Mathew Murray opened the scoring early in the second minute as the shed erupted. Shortly after Irish u21 striker Tommy lonergen put the sides level on the 22nd minute with a deflected shot. Waterford would have the better chances in the first half but City played well throughout the game ,As both sides fought a thorough battle, Kayden Kamara( loaned from Preston North End) scored a decent header on the 80th minute. Kamara would show his potential when he came off the bench as he also set up a shot for Josh Fitzpatrick despite nothing coming of it. It was Kaydens first goal of the season he would score for City.
However the Match was far from over after the goal as even Mcmullan, the Blues keeper tried to get involved to bring the game to extra time. Evan Mcloughlin and Rory Feely stood out to me during chances during the Match as Conan Noonan also played well for the opposition.
The Quarter Final draw for the cup takes place shortly after mid day on Tuesday and can be streamed on the FAI YouTube channel. Ger Nashs side will certainly be in the draw as the Leesiders luck is undoubtedly beginning to turn around as they face a challenge in survival in the League. City deserved to win tonight against a tough opposition and there are plenty of positives to take away from tonights performance.
After the game, City boss “Ger Nash” commented that the players and himself are fighting for this club and there is momentumn in the group. City face Bohemians away in their next league outing.
