Mick McDermott got in front of the press as he takes charge of his first home League of Ireland game at Cóbh Ramblers which will come against fellow Munster outfit Kerry F.C at St.Colman’s Park.
Mick’s outfit got off the mark last Friday night vs Treaty United at the Markets Field where 2 late stoppage time goals rescued the 3 points from the grasp of the Limerick side edging a 3-2 victory with late goals coming from David Bosnjak and Cian Murphy with ex-Cork City skipper Cian Coleman scoring not too long before hand.
“Mick was pleased with this win but also didn’t want to keep leaking goals “It was late against Kerry in the cup, ended up in Extra Time 4-3. Cork City at home in the cup 2 late winners and 3 goals in less than 10 minutes the other night”.
It does give you a boost but it’s not great for the heart so i think we not to avoid conceding as I say if you don’t concede we’ll win the game, we will create chances so we have to find a way to shut up shop at times”.
Kerry go into the game also with 3 points on the board with a 2-0 win at Mounthawk Park courtesy of Nathan Gleeson and Joseph Adams who was later sent off in the 69th minute with Kerry holding onto their clean sheets. Niall Brookwell, Sean O’Connell and Tim-Oliver Heimir found their way into the League of Ireland First Division Team of the Week through their performances against the Donegal outfit.
As previously these 2 sides have already met this year via the Munster Senior Cup in which the Ramblers edged Kerry in a 4-3 win in Extra Time with John O’Donovan being responsible for the win for the Cork side.
Kerry pose threat going forward with the likes of Ryan Kelliher and Sean McGrath being pivotal in the Kerry offense with Ryan Kelliher being included in the League of Ireland First Division Team of the Year in 2024.
“I’ve known about (Ryan) Kelliher for a while now, I know the name and the profile. We’ve spent this week watching video of the games so we’re aware of their threats.
“We’re aware of the threats McGrath, Kelliher, the central midfield pair both good players one likes to get on a bit more, one likes to sit. We’ve done our research on them but as i say the main thing in this league comes down to showing up and being ready to play, put some intensity, some commitment and being ready to battle because if you don’t win those battles in thus league there is no point. Put it this way nobody is winning this league just playing pretty football every week”.
It’s going to be a game where the Ramblers are favourites for the game but Kerry have proved over the years to not be underestimated.
