After 6 long years the Connaught derby finally returns with the last meeting of these teams being in the league cup in 2018 where Sligo rovers were the victors winning 1-0.
With Galway United promoted from the first division they’ve had a mixed form in the premier division having some greats wins and painful defeats most recently loosing 2-0 at home to bohemians on Monday and having a shock result beating Derry City 1-0 in the Brandywell this most recent Friday. They currently sit at seventh in the table with 10 points and they will be looking for all 3 points to climb up to 4th place in todays game. Colm Horgan and Garry Buckley are expected to still be missing from the squad due to injuries.
Sligo rovers comes into this game with a thrashing from st pats on Monday where they were 3-0 the victors. For rovers’ Friday game they narrowly defeated Waterford thanks to a wonder goal from Ellis Champman. Sligo rovers have had good form this season and currently sit in 4th in the table on 12 points collecting all 3 points would boost them back to 2nd in table. Injuries for the squad include long term absent John Mahon as well as JR Wilson who is expected to return next week for the trip to tallaght. Nando pijnaker is also expected to out long term due to broken ribs from a collision in st pats game Monday. Simon power also misses the game due to suspension.
