Shamrock Rovers “in conversations” To Extend Sobowale’s Stay

Stephen Bradley made it clear that his side are doing everything they can to keep Tunmise Sobowale at Shamrock Rovers after the conclusion of his loan in June.

Speaking after Shamrock Rovers 3-1 over Galway United Bradley revealed positive discussions had been taking place with St. Mirren: “We’re having good conversations at the moment. So, that is the plan and hopefully we can make it happen.”

The 27 year-old has garnered plenty of plaudence for his performances since joining in February, playing as both a centre-back and fullback.

He’s previously had League of Ireland experience, coming through the Waterford academy, and having spells with both Finn Harps and Athlone Town.

Stephen Bradley has been adamant about his desires for more success in Europe, with the hopes of qualifying for the League Phase of a UEFA competition for a third successive season. The permanent addition of Sobowale would strongly bolster their chances.

At times during the match at Eamon Deacy Park Shamrock Rovers fullback pairing of Adam Brennan and Sobowale could be seen on both their respective touchlines in line with Michael Noonan, while the ball was in their own half being shared between the centre-backs.

Bradley acknowledged the risks that this approach carries but claimed that when they do get it right, it becomes incredibly hard for the opposition stop. Both Brennan and Sobowale were on the scoresheet for the league leaders.

Speaking about Enda Stevens starting three of Rovers last four matches Bradley said: “It was always about getting him back to a level that he could play. He was out for a long time last year, so it’s just about building him in slowly, not rushing him.”

He recalled on his experience playing with Stevens, making it clear that he is a top player with his 26 Ireland caps and 75 Premier League appearances being proof of that.

Shamrock Rovers will travel to Oriel Park next week to take on Dundalk.
