St.Patrick’s Athletic V Cork City Match Preview – League Of Ireland Premier Division

The Rebel Army travel to Richmond Park for the second part of the double gameweek!

Introduction:

Both sides come into this Monday night fixture after 1-1 draws. Cork City did well to share the points with Shamrock Rovers in Turners Cross last time out as Darragh Crowley scored a spectacular goal in the dying moments of the game. Pats come into this game after drawing 1-1 with 10 men Galway. Midfielder Jason McClelland scored for the Saints. Pats are in good form of recent but have conceded in their last 3 outings. City have struggled against Pats this season.

Previous meetings:

27/06/2025: Cork City 0-0 St Pats

10/05/2025: St Pats 3-2 Cork City

11/04/2025: Cork city 0 2 St Pats

Key players:

St.Pats – 17 year old Mason Melia has proved his quality by scoring 11 goals for his side this year. He is impressing at International level for Ireland’s U21 as well as getting his name on the Pats senior sheet week in,week out. Joesph Anang is also a decent keeper for Pats this season.

Cork CityMathew Kiernan impressed me in the backline for the Rebels against Shamrock Rovers on Friday. The 19 year old defender is consistent at times in defence for the Leesiders. Greg Bolgers return to the playing field after injury concerns is also a good sign for City as his experience is vital to situations in play.

Prediction

St Pats 2-1 Cork City

While a result is almost essential for City to try and bridge the gap between themselves and Sligo. Sligo and Galway play Monday night in a massive game in the Relegation battle, travelling to Richmond Park is going to be tough for Nash’s outfit but none the less, I see City giving Stephen Kenny’s Saints a good game based on their recent performances. Pats could just be too strong at home for the visitors.I would fancy Cork City in the Cup Semi final against Pats, which is at home for the Rebel Army but that isnt going to be an easy feat either for Cork City, the bottom side in the division.
