The importance of fans to the LOI

As a Cork City fan, Ive seen how much the fans can contribute on and off the pitch. Countless volunteers ensure a friendly atmosphere from security to selling match programmes. In all the grounds throughout the league volunteers go unrecognised for their work from lining the pitch to cleaning the stands. They are a credit to the league. Devotion by these individuals to the game surely stands to the phrase “the Greatest leauge in the world”, they often go unnoticed at times.

Poor results among other factors surrounding off field matters have led to a fall in attendances at Turners cross but the die hard fans, some of them who travel the country will always show up rain or shine and I see the familiar faces on a weekly basis. Fans are vital for success to create an atmosphere and boost the players. Every club has their ultras who live for the club. The various supporters groups in the shed in the cross provide spectacles, chants and even drums to ensure an atmosphere. This photo was taken by me in the stands and shows the support in the Curragh Road Stand of the ground. The teams need support at the worst of times as much as they need it at the best of times. Close fanbases are evident across the league.

Fair enough, A fanatic could sit down on the couch and watch the English Premier League and get top quality sport but nothing beats being at a live game and cheering on your local team and you never know, it might be an entertaining watch!
