
2-0 up and looking set to claim an unlikely win with 7 minutes to go, The crowd in the main stand in the Markets Field were starting to have abit of hope that this Treaty United side could be competitive for the playoffs places this season. The Blue Army in the top right corner singing their chants in support of the team and of the players. 10 minutes later you could hear a pen drop on the floor. Everybody couldn’t believe what had happened. Final score: Treaty United 2-3 Cobh Ramblers. From looking to set to starting the season unbeaten and 3 points on the board, to come away from the game with 0 points.
It was Cobh Ramblers that started the game the brightest dominating the possession but didn’t really create any chances of note in the opening 25 minutes.
On the 34 minute, We had the first goal of the evening in the Markets Field for the 2025 season. A long delivery into the box, Treaty United centre-back Richkov Boevi calmly finished past the Cobh Ramblers keeper, giving his side a 1-0 lead. Just 3 minutes later Treaty United had another brilliant chance with Trpimir Vrlijcak who caused the Cobh defence trouble all evening just unable to take his chance.
From being dominated in the opening 25 minutes it was Treaty United who finished the better of the 2 teams and went into the halftime break with a well deserved 1-0 advantadge.
Into the second half and with 64 minutes on the clock everyone in the ground was certain it was going to be 2-0 when Treaty United midfielder Lee Devitt looked to be through for his side’s second goal of the night. However, his shot ended up into the hands of Cobh Ramblers goalkeeper Timothy Martin.
With 11 minutes on the clock, Treaty United got their second and what a goal it was. Lee Devitt opted to shoot from the corner and in it went past Martin to send the Treaty United fans wild. It look set for a opening day victory for Treaty United with 10 minutes left on the clock
Then the tide changed……
In the 84th minute, Cobh Ramblers started their charge, with new signing Cian Coleman scoring on his debut to start the comeback. Few minutes later and it was 2-2 , David Bosnjak getting the equalizer. The Markets Field was left stunned. The home fans didn’t know what they were watching and the away fans couldn’t believe it either.
And the travelling supporters of Cobh Ramblers were sent home to Cork with the best present possible as Cian Murphy got the third goal and the final goal of the night to win it for his side.
In a interview after the game last night, Treaty United manager put his sides collapse down to a lack of “experience” and lack of in game management. It was a common trend with Treaty United last season giving away leads from promising positions and to come away with nothing from the game so Tommy Barrett and his staff will be looking to sort this fairly soon so it doesn’t become a trend for this season.
