It might only be the 23rd of June but tonight’s clash between Treaty United and Wexford FC at the Markets Field does have the feeling of an important game in both sides quest to be in the Playoff positions come the end of the season. A win for the Limerick side tonight would put 9 points between the 2 sides as Treaty United look to break away from chasing pack and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2022. However, a win for Wexford FC would reduce the gap to 3 points and depending on results elsewhere in the division could see Wexford FC back in the playoff places.
Last Time Out
It was contrasting results for both sides in Gameweek 19 as Wexford FC suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to Longford Town at Ferrycarrig Park. Emre Topcu getting the important goal just 6 minutes into the game.
For Treaty United, a Mark Walsh stoppage time goal sent the travelling supporters back to Shannonside in great spirits as they snatched a 1-1 draw away to league leaders Dundalk. Dundalk has taken the leader 4 minutes from time with a great strike from substitute Harry Groome which looked to have secured the 3 points for Dundalk. But in the 92nd minute a Yoyo Mahdy cross fell into the path of the Treaty United captain and he made no mistake in slotting it home.
Tale Of The Tape
This will be the third time this season that the 2 sides have met in the league so far with Wexford FC having the upper hand with victories in both previous meetings so far this season. The most recent clash being a 2-0 victory for Wexford at Ferrycarrig Park back in April.
Treaty United will be hoping to see the return of a number of players who were absent from the matchday squad on Friday night with the likes of Lee J Lynch, Robbie Lynch, Mark Byrne & Trpimir Vrljičak all absent from the squad in Oriel Park Friday night.
Prediction
Treaty United have looked to be hitting form at the right time this season with impressive performances and I think they will continue this fine run of form with a victory again tonight.
Treaty United 1-0 Wexford
