In the dressing room of our last fixture before the international break, Danny Ventre made his thoughts loud and clear “If You Don’t Think We Can Get Europe, Don’t Come Back.” Hopefully that message portrays into our fixture against Sligo Rovers away from home.
John Coleman’s men face an 8 hour round trip as a trip to The Showgrounds beckons upon us for the second time this year. Opening night was a delight for blues fans as we opened our campaign with a 3-2 victory, with debutants Longergan and Noonan netting goals 2 & 3 whereas seasoned professional McDonald scored the first goal of his professional career, and what a goal that was! Game 2, however, was the lowest point for The Blues this year, suffering a shocking 0-4 defeat in the RSC, putting the final nail in the coffin for Keith Long’s tenure as the man in charge. Since then, Coleman and Ventre have shown a glitter of hope in the South.
Waterford have no fresh injury concerns, with Radkowski, Boyle, Coyle and Smith still missing from the squad, all looks well for Smith as he has reportedly returned to training. Sligo are missing Denham and Van Hattum from the squad.
There’s 4 more fixtures before the transfer window opens, and that window will prove to be critical if we want to claw our way from a relegation battle, being 10 points from playoffs and 11 from automatic relegation.
