Kerry Snatch Late Draw In Disappointing Munster Derby

It will be a bank holiday Monday game to forget for both Treaty United and Kerry FC supporters, As an own goal for Kerry FC 5 minutes from time made sure they didn’t go home empty handed as they were the better side once Treaty United opened the scoring in the 65th minute.

It was a largely uneventful opening half at the Markets Field, with the only real chance coming the way of the home side 2 minutes into the game when Mark Byrne had a shot saved by the Kerry keeper before Lee Devitt’s lobbed effort went to the right of the post.

Into the second half and in the 65th minute, 1 of Treaty United’s signings in the summer window Patrick Ferry got the game’s opening goal with a well taken header right into the corner to get his second goal for the club.

You just felt inside the Markets Field, Treaty United were going to kick on and get a crucial 3 points in what is a very close playoff race and potentially close the gap to UCD in fourth place. That’s not how it played out….

Credit must go to Colin Healy for the change of fortunes for Kerry FC as he made 4 attacking substitutions in the following 5 minutes after as they chased a leveller. Kerry were by far the better team in the final quarter and Treaty United were just happy to sit back and try grind out a result.

And Kerry FC got their reward 5 minutes from time, A long throw in wasn’t dealt with by the Treaty United defence and a Ewan Lee shot was deflected in off Joe Hanson going past Corey Chambers to make it 1-1.

Tensions rose in added time as Kerry FC chased a winner with Dean Owens stopping a promising counter attack for the Kingdom which led to a brawl with a number of players receiving booking some lucky not to be red cards.

1-1 was how it finished in the Markets Field with Treaty just having 2 wins from their previous 10 games. As Treaty United manager Tommy Barrett approached the stand to enter the dressing rooms some supporters questioned some of his decisions in the second half and Barrett responded by suggesting that they “go get their pro licenses”
