Match Preview: The Cities collide in the Brandywell

This Friday the Rebel Army take the long journey to play the Candystripes in one of the two League of Ireland Premier Division fixtures this week, Drogheda face Waterford this week as the Dublin teams aim to advance in European competition. A host of first division games also take place this week.

Recent Form:

Cork City- W,L,W(FAI Cup),L,L

Derry City-L,D, W(FAI Cup),L,W

Cork City come off the back off a 1 0 win against Galway United as they are fighting for survival sitting 8 points below Sligo at the bottom of the table in what hasn’t been the best season for Cork fans. It was Manager, Ger Nashs first league win.Derry sit in third on the back of a 2-0 loss to Shamrock Rovers who sit 10 points clear at the top of the table. Derry have a good home form to be noted.

Last time out and Notable players:

A single goal has separated the sides in their last 3 meetings- Cork 1-2 Derry, Cork 2-1 Derry, Cork 0-1 Derry.

Conor Brann is to be noted after being included in the team of the week

The Goalkeeper has played well between the sticks as New keeper David Odumosu is presumed to still be injured after making his debut in a friendly against Glasgow Celtic.

For Derry, I think Centre- Mid Carl Winchester is to be respected as a decent player for the Northern Side.

My prediction:

Derry City 1-1 Cork City

While Derry fight for a European spot, Any result would prove efficient for Cork City if they are to attempt the impossible and avoid the drop. The Home win against Galway should also give Cork City a confidence boost but Derry City are to be respected as a top side in the division.

Kick off is 7:45 in the Brandywell.
