Match Review: Bohemians 2-1 Derry City

By Eoin Taylor

A Fantastic performance from Bohs claim the 3 points of the Candystripes!

Wow! What a game, It was an interesting night in D7 with mixed emotions through the whole night. Before I get into this review just to say one thing.

And I think I speak for every league of Ireland Fan here, it is absolutely Fantastic to see James Talbot Back in amongst it and with a smile on his face after taking some time out to deal with Mental Health issues which comes before anything. Great to see you back JT❤️

So the game kicked off not much went on in the opening stages of the game. 13 minutes on the clock and bohs switch the ball with Cian Byrne Out to Dylan Connolly Who picks up the ball and runs and Mark Connolly who must have been Tormented all night. Connolly whips the ball in to Target man Filip Piszczek but he sees his effort go wide of the post.

Just on the 20th minute mark and there’s a mix up at the back for bohs as new man Jevon Mills and Cian Byrne Clash heads and lets Former Dundalk man Daniel Kelly in but his shot was easily saved by Chorazka in the bohs net.

The head collision with Byrne and Mills forces Interim manager Derek Pender to go to his bench and he brings on American Native Aboubacar Keita.

29th minute and another mix up at the back but this time it’s for Derry, Ronan Boyce picks up the ball in the midfield and lays it back to Ex Ucd Man Sam Todd and his back pass was too short and it allows Dayle Rooney to pick up the ball and wrap his left foot around it and it goes past Brian Maher and it’s 1-0 to Bohs!

A couple of minutes later and That man Again Dylan Connolly is in behind the Derry City defence breezing past Mark Connolly. The winger with a great first touch to set himself and he’s in on goal. Brian Maher is off his line and Connolly tries to win the penalty but Rob Hennessy gets it right and gives a free out and a yellow card to Connolly which is the right decision. Clear dive if he stays on his feet it’s 2-0 to bohs!

Second half starts and Jordan Flores next to go into Hennessy’s book.

That man again Dylan Connolly  Causing problems down the right as he runs at Derry and whips a great ball into The big man Piszczek and he flicks a fantastic header towards goal but it was an even better Save by Brian Maher. But there was some worry for Bohs fans because as Piszczek goes for the header and as soon as he lands it looks like he twisted something which was causing him some discomfort and he calls to the bench straight away. This means Derek Pender is forced to go to his bench again and he brings on Former Derry man James Akintunde.

54 minutes gone and Derry looking to find an equaliser, Former Pats Man Adam O Reilly picks up the ball and drives through the middle looking for Danny McMullen and he finds him and he’s behind the Bohs defence and He shoots first time but Chorazka was equal to it.

Ruaidhri Higgins goes to his Bench for the first time on the 56th minute mark and he brings on double subsition Ciaran Coll and Patrick McEleney and they replace Sam Todd and Jordan McEneff

Pender goes to his bench again, Another great face to see back on the pitch again is young James McManus as he replaces Skipper Jordan Flores

72 minutes gone and Adam O Reilly fires a shot from afar but again Chorazka with great hands to save and to take some pressure of the back 4.

Higgins makes another double sub bringing on Will Patching and youngster Sean Patton They replace Daniel Kelly and Daniel McMullen.

76th minute and Dayle Rooney hits a low corner into the front post Flicked on By Adam McDonnell and it’s Tapped in by James Akintunde and that’s 2-0 to Bohs and it’s fully deserved!

Shortly after Derry whip a ball into the box and it’s barely cleared by Lilander and it falls to Ronan Boyce on the edge of the box and he hits a low driven strike in the bottom corner. I did say in my preview he was one to watch out for and he proves it there 2-1!

Nothing much happened after that, Derry pushing for the equaliser but the Bohs defence was resilient and rode the waves of the Derry attacks, 5 minutes was added on and still no equaliser for Derry and Rob Hennessy blows his whistle and Bohs pick up a big 3 points in D7!

Man of the match is very very hard to choose from I could pick loads. Flores was good alongside  McDonnell, Jevon Mills excellent and Kacper Chorazka in goal and also mention Paddy Kirk aswell a lot to choose from but im gonna go with Dylan Connelly, caused problems all night for the Derry defence and chased every single ball there was to be chased so he’s my Man of the Match.

Bohs next fixture is the big one. The Dublin Derby away to Shamrock Rovers. Should be an interesting one. Preview for that one will be out next Thursday make sure to give it a read it massively helps. Thanks to everyone who retweeted and liked everything so far really appreciated.

Best of luck and safe travels to all the bohs fans travelling to Tallaght next week make that away end electric!
