Wanderers in Wonderland: Sixth Straight Win Seals Club Record

The Seagulls continued their excellent form on Easter Monday, securing a 2-0 victory over UCD, with goals from Harevy Warren and Danu Kinsella-Bishop, making it a club record six league victories in a row.

The game started with chances for both sides, mostly UCD, but they could never get the ball in the back of the net.

In the 36th minute, Harvey Warren made UCD rue their missed chances, as he got on the end of Max Murphy’s corner and slotted the ball in with his left foot from 3 yards out.

Bray led at the interval, it was a poor first half from The Wanderers, but UCD couldn’t finish their dinner, and Bray took advantage of that.

Going into the second half, UCD manager Willie O’Connor decided to switch things up in hopes of an equaliser, with Mikey Raggett and Carl Lennox coming on for Behan and Holohan respectively.

Bray picked up where they left off in the first half, not having much of the ball but at the same time, not having much to do defensively.

Danu Kinsella-Bishop and Richard Ferizaj came on for Rhys Knight and Cian Curtis for Bray just short of the hour mark.

Minutes later, Billy O’Neill whipped a cross in off the right flank, Richie Ferizaj managed to get a touch on it, the ball then fell to Conor Knight who struck the post, which then led to Danu Kinsella-Bishop hitting a volley to get his first goal for Bray Wanderers, putting them firmly in the driving seat.

UCD failed to create much in the remainder of the game, with the Wanderers defence standing firm to anything they did manage to produce.

Bray came close to a third on two occasions five minutes apart, with Max Murphy forcing excellent stops from Dara Kavanagh in the 74th and 79th minutes.

The Seagulls saw the game out well and secured the victory over their local rivals.

This saw Bray break a club record for the most league victories in a row in their history.

It was also Bray Wanderers club captain Kilian Cantwell’s 100th appearance for The Green and White.

On the day of the game (21 April) it was exactly one month to the day of Bray’s 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Finn Harps. The response and turnaround from them has been nothing short of extraordinary, and we could see something very special from the Seagulls this season.

Bray head coach Paul Heffernan commented on the record breaking six league wins in a row saying “It’s a brilliant achievement, full credit must go to the players, because they’ve been excellent for the last four or five weeks, we’ve had some tough games they’ve all been different, we were away from home obviously at the start of the season, and to be back here now and win a few games at the Carlisle, we’re all delighted.”

Bray face Kerry this Friday, 25th April and they’ll hope to make it seven in a row.
