No Joy in the Shannon Waters as Treaty Sink Again

Treaty United’s struggles continued on Monday evening as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat away to Wexford FC at Ferrycarrig Park. Goals in the first half from Kaylem Harnett and Mikie Rowe sealed a deserved win for the home side and handed Treaty their third defeat in five games.

Wexford Dominance

Wexford were on top from the off, with Harnett putting them in front after just nine minutes. The first half was pretty much played in Treaty United’s half as they offered little to no threat going forward in the first half and Wexford’s opening goal didn’t come as a suprize for anyone in attendance in Ferrycarrig Park.

Mark Byrne was the only bit of a threat in a disappointing first half performance from Tommy Barrett’s side but any hope of a comeback were dashed as Wexford struck for goal number 2. Mikie Rowe continuing his fine form in recent games cut in off the left from a lovely cross field pass from James Crawford and Rowe made no mistake with his shot getting past Corey Chambers.

Uneventful Second Half

Wasn’t much clear cut chances for either side in the second half with Wexford continuing the trend of the first half dominating possession and were comfortable winners in the end.

The win sees Wexford climb to fourth in the standings after 11 games with 17 points (got deducted 3 points after GW 1 player eligibility issue) 10 points off league leaders Dundalk. For Treaty United, they fall outside the play off place and slip to sixth position 1 point behind Finn Harps. This is also Treaty United’s 3rd defeat in their last 5 games.

Where To Now?

What will concern Tommy Barrett and his management side the most is the lack of the attacking threat Treaty United had in the game. Treaty opted to rest key players, Lee Devitt and Karl O Sullivan in the first half. In what will be a positive for Treaty is the return of defender Darren Nwankwo to the side as he made his first appearance in 273 days yesterday. The return of key midfielder Lee J Lynch would be a massive boost to the side but a return date is still unknown.
