Cathal O’Sullivan returns as Cork City look to knock Drogheda off their perch

Drogheda United have been a fortress away from home this season, yet to concede a single goal on their travels. Their defensive resilience has been the foundation of their campaign, and they’ll be eager to extend that record when they face Cork City. However, with just 21% and 27% possession against Shelbourne and Bohemians, respectively, the signs suggest Cork will dominate the ball tomorrow night.

Despite often sitting deep, Drogheda have been ruthless when chances arise, making their efficiency in front of goal just as vital as their defensive solidity. On the other hand, Cork manager Tim Clancy can’t say the same about his backline, with the Rebel Army conceding in every match so far this season. That defensive fragility puts added pressure on the returning Cathal O’Sullivan and Ruairi Keating to deliver up front.

O’Sullivan’s return could be a game-changer for Cork. The 18-year-old was building momentum before an unfortunate injury cut short his outing against Galway after 55 minutes. Now back in the fold, the Little Island native will be eager to make up for lost time and prove his worth.

Cork will be without Charlie Lyons, who is suspended, while Greg Bolger will be present on the sidelines—but not in a playing capacity. The veteran midfielder is expected to step into an assistant coaching role in place of Jamie Hamill, who has returned to Scotland for family reasons.

Meanwhile, Seani Maguire, Malik Dijksteel, and Conor Drinan remain sidelined, though Evan McLaughlin is edging closer to a return.

Verdict: Draw
