Quick Review:
Full time score: 1-1
Venue: Turners Cross Stadium
Goalscorers:
Cork City WFC- Holly Hagan
DLR Waves- Abbie Brophy
Bottom side Cork City earned a home draw against 9th place DLR Waves in Turners Cross on Saturday. The City side have been in poor form in recent matches and did well to get a draw. 17 year old Clodagh Fitzgerald made a noticeable save in goals for City on the third minute and a number more throughout the match. Hagan got the ball into the right hand corner of the net on the 5th minute while Brophy equalised for the Dublin side on the 48th minute. Sloppy defending from City left Brophy easily get a strong strike which was a very good quality goal and helped DLR level the score. The final result proved to be fair as both sides had several close chances throughout the 90 minutes.
Cork City face Bohemian FC Women next while DLR Waves face Wexford. At the top end of the table, the Shelbourne and Athlone ladies appear to be creating a title race with only 2 points between the two sides. Athlone Town could make history if they qualify for the inaugural Women’s Europa League as they were recently drawn against Glasgow City in a play off.
