Preview: Cork City vs Bohemians

Bohemians travel the length of the country in search if their first win on the road this season when they travel to the Second City to take on Cork City at Turner’s Cross.

The Rebels come into this game having played only one game – their 2-2 home draw vs Galway United.

This is due to the postponement of Sunday’s fixture vs Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght.

This could act as both a blessing and a curse for City, as although they will undoubtedly be the fresher of the two teams, there could be a tinge of rustiness, as they await their first away day of the season.

Unlike the Premier Division’s southernmost team, Bohemians come into this game having played a game the previous week, losing 1-0 in the opposite end of the country to Derry City.

This was a game which saw Bohs create no real threat towards Brian Maher’s goal, with the Candystripes ‘keeper not being troubled all that much on Friday night.

Many Bohs supporters also pointed out the lack of fitness of new striker Lys Mousset, however, many have also pointed out his need for game time to increase his fitness.

The former Sheffield United and Bournemouth striker was one of the favourites to pick up the Golden Boot coming into the season.

However, Bohs will still be confident of picking up all three points, as they should.

The Gypsies’ 1-0 win over Shamrock Rovers at Lansdowne Road, in spite of the loss on Friday, shows there is definitely a team in there, beating an albeit tired Hoops side, with excellent performances from the likes of Connor Parsons and Ross Tierney.

A big loss for Dublin’s Originals will no doubt be manager Alan Reynolds, who was sent off after a touchline scuffle with Derry boss Tiernan Lynch.

This has resulted in the former Waterford assistant being handed a one-match touchline ban.

This will see current assistant manager and former League and Cup winning captain Stephen O’Donnell take charge against Tim Clancy’s side.

On the pitch, Cork”s Cathal O’Sullivan suffered a knee injury in the aforementioned opening day draw vs Galway United.

The 17-year-old is due back in a matter of weeks according to Clancy via The Irish Sun, however he is likely to miss Friday night’s fixture.

Stephen O’Donnell will have a full squad to choose from ahead of the fixture, with no injury or suspension concerns for Bohemians.

Bohemians sit 5th whilst Cork City find themselves in 7th.
