Match Review: Galway United 2-1 Waterford FC

A report written by @conchurdebarra

The First Half

The game started out fairly evenly, with both teams having their fair share of possession and opportunities. Galway’s Conor McCormack went down just after 8 minutes, but the game resumed 2 minutes later. Waterford’s Padraig “Podge” Amond broke the deadlock after 19 minutes, with a brilliant run down the right hand side from Parsons, who stuck one right into the box to meet an unmarked Amond who calmly struck it in to give the blues the lead. The Tribesmen had their fair share of chances, With Dervlin rattling the crossbar and was very unlucky not to convert. Galway dominated the possession but have not been able to take their chances.

The Second Half

A very poor second half performance from the blues, and Galway capitalised. The Tribesmen equalised after 47 minutes on the clock as Aodh Dervin took possession down the right and was given enough space to slice a cross into Borden who sent Sargeant the wrong way to equalise the game. Galway dominated possession for the full game as United took the lead after 79 minutes as David Hurley took a well struck free kick from 20 yards as Sargeant couldn’t gather it and took the scoreline to 2-1. Galway kept possession tight as 4 minutes were added on. Clarke ran the clock down to give galway their second 3 points of the season.

My take.

Disappointing not to come away with 3 points. Galway were much better all round and I cant fault them for it. although there were many dodgy refereeing decisions, we just have to take it on the chin and focus up on Pats this coming monday.

Thank you for the read
